Experience all the excitement and culture that Cambodia has to offer with a journey to its most iconic spots in ten days. Explore the vibrant capital city of Phnom Penh and the ancient Siem Reap, home to the incredible religious complex of Angkor. Sail on the beautiful Tonle Sap Lake, venture through the magnificent temples of Angkor Wat and see some of the country’s most beautiful hidden temples.
Transfer to your hotel after being greeted at the airport for a short rest before your adventures. This afternoon, hop onto a cyclo for a city tour stopping at the National Museum, the Royal Palace and the Silver Pagoda. End the day aboard a boat and set sail while the sun sets over the capital.
Wake early and begin the day with a visit to the genocide museum, also known as Toul Sleng and the Killing Fields, to learn more about Cambodia’s torrid past and the horrific rule of the Khmer Rouge. In the afternoon, head to the Sovann Phum office to see a different and brighter side of traditional Khmer culture.
Today you are bound for Battambang, but during the journey you’ll stop at two of Cambodia’s most beautiful cities. First, head to Udong, located about 40 kilometeres northwest of Phnom Penh. Once a royal capital city, it was abandoned in 1866 after King Norodom relocated his entire court to the modern capital, Phnom Penh. Then, stop at Kompong Chhnang famous for its ceramic workshops and artisans, before arriving in Battambang.
This morning, head to the site of some of Cambodia’s most beautiful carvings, the 11th century Ek Phnom Temple. Enjoy lunch before heading off to Phnom Banan, where you’ll be able to enjoy some of the best views of the surrounding countryside. Finally, it’s off to Phnom Sampeau, perched on a rocky hill and hiding a series of caves, which were once used as “killing caves” during the rule of the brutal Khmer Rouge.
This morning, enjoy breakfast before your journey to the beautiful town of Siem Reap, the gateway to the magnificent Angkor religious complex. Upon arrival, trade your car for a tuk-tuk as it rumbles along unpaved roads to arrive at the town of Angkor Thom, home to incredible temple structures including the lost temple of Prasat Chroung and Bayon, famous for its thousands of massive stone faces. Then, visit the Terrace of the Elephants, the Royal Palace and the Terrace of the Leper King before heading back to Siem Reap.
This morning, hop back aboard the Buffalo Tours tuk tuk and rumble toward the enveloped temple of Ta Prohm, one of the most visually arresting temples in all of Angkor. Follow a guided tour to learn about this fascinating temple that remains largely unchanged from the way that it was found, with trees and shrubbery growing from between the massive ruins. Enjoy late breakfast and a rest at the hotel before setting off t othe temple of Banteay Srei, or ‘Citadel of the Women’. Enjoy sunset from the top of the pyramid-shaped Pre Rup Temple on the way back toward Siem Reap.
Spend your morning in the Buffalo Tours tuk tuk bound for the furthest edges of Siem Reap. Once you’ve arrived, hop on an ox cart and enjoy a leisurely ride into the countryside until you’ve reached Cambodia’s largest freshwater lake, Tonle Sap. Once on board, sail toward the largest village on the lake, Kompong Phluk, where the locals carry out their daily lives on the water. Boat services to the village are provided by the locals, and the profits directly benefit the community here. Enjoy the rest of the day at the village at leisure.
This morning, head out of Siem Reap for your flight to Phnom Penh. Once you’ve arrived, you’ll head immediately to the coast and the charming seaside resort. Once you’ve checked in, you’ll enjoy the rest of the day as you please.
Enjoy the entire day as you please, either by kicking back on the pristine white sand beach outside of the resort or with a journey to nearby Rabbit Island. Wander through French colonial architecture or laze on the beach for the day, enjoying the sand and sun of this beautiful coastal gem.
Enjoy the morning for one last dip in the sea or a wander around town before your transfer back to the airport for your onward flight.
